A Congresswoman from Florida has sparked concern due to her prolonged absence from Capitol Hill, which has lasted almost a month. This situation prompts questions about the Democratic Party’s leadership as the 2026 midterm elections approach.
Rep. Frederica Wilson, at 83 years old, hasn’t participated in any House votes since April 17, according to congressional records. She has now skipped 43 consecutive votes without any public updates from her office.
Representing Florida’s 24th Congressional District, which encompasses parts of Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Wilson has been in Congress since 2011 and has served in her current district since 2013.
This unexplained absence adds pressure on Democrats, who are striving to regain control of the House while President Donald Trump and Republicans aim to uphold their slim majority.
The matter gained traction after congressional journalist Jamie Dupree pointed out Wilson’s voting history and highlighted the lack of recent content on her social media, noting that some of the posted images seemed dated. Reports indicated some matched older events, including a Service Academy Day from last year.

Wilson’s office has not confirmed whether her absence is due to health concerns or when she might return to Washington.
This situation is particularly sensitive for Democrats, who have criticized Republicans for age-related issues while maintaining several older lawmakers in their midst.
Wilson is a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, with recent hearing footage failing to show her participation.
As she prepares for reelection in 2026, Wilson faces a challenge from Christine Sanon-Jules, a small-business owner advocating for change in leadership. While her seat is generally secure, the uncertainty surrounding her absence may intensify discussions about the longevity of longstanding lawmakers who have been absent from critical votes.
Currently, the congresswoman has not provided any public statements regarding her situation.
