Comer Raises Alarm Over Omar’s Financial Discrepancies

House Oversight Chairman James Comer is intensifying scrutiny on Rep. Ilhan Omar following significant revisions in her financial disclosures. He suggests that the Minnesota Democrat might be facing serious legal issues if the discrepancies aren’t merely errors.

“Who makes a multimillion-dollar mistake on their financial disclosure form?” Comer questioned during a recent appearance on Hannity.

“Either her accountant is poorly trained, or she’s being dishonest,” he added, referencing a notorious Minneapolis daycare involved in a fraud scandal.

“If she lied about it, that’s a felony,” Comer emphasized.

These comments follow Omar’s submission of an amended disclosure that lists her and her husband’s assets between $18,004 and $95,000, a striking reduction from the earlier estimate of $6 million to $30 million, as reported by The Wall Street Journal. This vast difference alarmed Republicans, who believe such a major inconsistency is not just an oversight.

Omar’s office counters that the congresswoman is not a millionaire, attributing the original error to a major accounting mistake.

Detailed Omar spokesperson Jacklyn Rogers, “The amended disclosure confirms we’ve maintained all along: The congresswoman is not a millionaire.” She noted that the form was rectified immediately after the discrepancy was discovered.

Her attorney also defended the process, stating that many lawmakers depend on their accountants for financial disclosures.

“While the error is regrettable, there’s nothing improper about it, and no illegal conduct has taken place,” the attorney asserted. However, Comer remains unconvinced.

He stated that if Omar made an error, she hasn’t adequately explained how it occurred. “Disclosures are scrutinized before submission; it doesn’t add up,” he argued.

“This issue isn’t going to fade for her,” Comer added, warning that Republicans will continue to demand clarity and monitor her involvement in any Minnesota-related fraud investigations.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., also criticized Omar over the weekend, labeling her a “complete fraud” and calling for accountability should any misconduct be revealed.
