Clayton Fuller Secures Position for Runoff in Former MTG District

Clayton Fuller, a Republican candidate backed by Trump, has successfully moved past a competitive GOP field to reach the runoff election against Democrat Shawn Harris in Georgia’s 14th Congressional District. This election is intended to fill the seat once held by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who left Congress earlier this year following a disagreement with the former president.

As no candidate secured a majority, Fuller and Harris will face off in a runoff on April 7. Georgia law mandates such a runoff if the leading candidates do not gather over 50 percent of the total vote in the primary.

About the District

Georgia’s 14th Congressional District includes a mix of rural and suburban regions in the northwest, covering areas like Rome and Dalton and extending into the outskirts of Atlanta. This seat became vacant on January 5, when Greene officially resigned.

Election Results and Candidate Background

As per the latest count, Fuller received around 34.7% of the votes with about 73 percent reporting. He currently serves as the district attorney for the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit since 2020 and is also a member of the Air National Guard.

Fuller previously competed for this congressional seat in 2020 but finished fourth in the primary. He gained Trump’s endorsement on February 4, with the former president highlighting his commitment to military strength and economic issues.

The election showcased a crowded field, with over a dozen Republican candidates alongside Democrats and others. Initially, 17 Republicans entered the race, although a few withdrew, leaving approximately 12 active participants.

Besides Fuller, notable Republican candidates included former state senator Colton Moore, who received 11.7 percent of the vote, and Brian Stover, who obtained around 5.0 percent. On the Democratic side, Shawn Harris led with roughly 38 percent, bringing a wealth of military experience as a retired U.S. Army Brigadier General.

Looking Ahead

The runoff, scheduled for April 7, will determine the candidate who serves the remainder of the term until a regularly scheduled election in November. Given the district’s strong Republican lean, Fuller is favored to win the runoff.
