California Democrats like LA County Mayor Karen Bass certainly can’t control the wind and they can’t prevent fires from starting in Pacific Palisades Malibu and other areas. But there are things they can do to mitigate infernos like these to keep them from turning their cities into hell on earth.
Take water, for instance. The fire hydrants in Los Angeles don’t even work because no one bothered to refill the reservoirs.
As Rick Caruso says, this is pretty basic stuff:
🚨 #BREAKING: Los Angeles fire hydrants are OUT OF WATER because the county REFUSED to refill reservoirs, per Rick Caruso
“You can’t fight a fire without water!”
The Mayor did ZERO prep despite the advanced warning of winds and fire risk.

Caruso also mentions that they’ve had decades to remove the brush in the hills surrounding Pacific Pallisades and Malibu and it never got done. Now people are paying the ultimate price in losing everything.
It’s also being reported that Mayor Bass’ second largest cut in her budget was FIRE:
Karen Bass cut fire dept funding by $17.6M.

As Stephen Green at PJ Media says, that’s “like turning off tornado warning sirens in Oklahoma City.”
And then there’s DEI:
Then there’s Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Kristin Crowley, whom local ABC7 celebrated as “the first LGBTQ+ person to the lead the department, [and] also the first woman.” Her focus seems to have been less on fighting fires and more on launching the “Los Angeles Fire Department’s first-ever Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Bureau (DEI) focused on ensuring a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace for all.”
Crowley can fiddle with DEI while Pacific Pallisades burns.
Both of those previous links are courtesy of FrontPageMag’s Daniel Greenfield, who wrote, “Right now, I think even the most die-hard woke in LA would take competence over diversity.” The problem, of course, is they didn’t choose competence over diversity when it mattered most. By the time the fires start and the winds whip up, it’s too late.
What’s also bizarre is that they haven’t even turned off the power to these areas and now trees are falling on power lines and generating more sparks to fuel the blaze:
Hey @LADWP, why are there still energized power lines in Pacific Palisades??? Everyone’s under evacuation order. This is compounding the problem #PalisadesFire pic.twitter.com/TxejTdHyce

Mike Rowe landed in LA and shows the view of what’s going on from a distance:

Someone else filmed the destruction as they evacuated this morning. They saw over 100 homes fully engulfed:
I just left the hellscape formerly know as Pacific Palisades where I’ve lived for 26 years. I’m mad at what I saw. Our politicians have failed us. Unprepared, unimaginative, understaffed, now overwhelmed. Heads must roll for this disaster. I personally saw 100+ homes fully engulfed. @RickCarusoLA just mentioned water wasn’t working in the fire hydrants- WTF?! (I took this video around Pali High. Total destruction.)

This hellscape could have at least been mitigated, perhaps even to a great degree, if this Democrat county was prepared. But there isn’t enough water nor firefighters to deal with it and now it’s too late for many. With near 100+ mph winds whipping this out-of-control inferno though homes and businesses, all many can do is watch and pray that God has mercy and stills the wind so that this nightmare can soon come to an end.
The big question I have is will the people of Los Angeles hold Karen Bass and other Democrats accountable for this? What about the governor? This is Newsom’s state and he apparently did nothing to ensure his state, which is prone to these kind of wildfires, worked to protect its own citizens and their property. If people don’t hold them accountable this is never going to stop happening.
