Border Patrol Agent Involved in Arizona Shooting, One Person Critically Injured

Authorities in southern Arizona are investigating a shooting involving a U.S. Border Patrol agent that left one person critically injured early Tuesday morning, according to local officials.

The incident occurred near milepost 15 on Arivaca Road in the Arivaca area of Pima County. Emergency responders with the Santa Rita Fire District and American Medical Response were dispatched to the scene around 7:30 a.m. on January 27 after reports of a shooting.

Officials confirmed the incident involved a Border Patrol agent. When first responders arrived, they found one individual in custody and suffering from critical injuries. Immediate medical care was provided at the scene before the injured person was airlifted by medical helicopter to a regional trauma center for further treatment, according to KVOA.

Border Patrol officers remained on scene as the investigation got underway.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said its Criminal Investigation Division is assisting alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The sheriff’s department is conducting a parallel investigation and is leading the use of force review involving the agent.

“Such requests are standard practice when a federal agency is involved in a shooting incident within Pima County and consistent with long standing relationships built through time to promote transparency,” the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

Authorities have not released the identity of the injured individual or the Border Patrol agent involved. No additional information has been provided about what led up to the shooting or whether the agent was injured during the incident.

Local residents were advised to avoid the area while investigators continued their work. No broader public safety threat has been identified, according to officials.

This is a developing story.
