A suspect was detained Sunday after climbing a fence and dropping a suspicious package near the White House.
The incident occurred at the U.S. Treasury Building, prompting a swift bomb squad response.
U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division officers quickly apprehended the individual around 2:30 p.m. on July 27, 2025.
The breach happened on the southeast side of the Treasury Building, which sits adjacent to the White House complex in Washington, D.C.
The suspect allegedly dropped a bag on the sidewalk next to the fence line.
Authorities treated the bag as suspicious out of caution, leading to an immediate call for the Metropolitan Police Department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team.
The EOD team arrived and cleared the item, declaring the scene safe.
No explosives or dangerous materials were found in the package.
Temporary road closures were put in place on 15th Street NW and nearby areas, including parts of Pennsylvania Avenue.
These measures disrupted traffic while the investigation unfolded, but all closures were lifted once the area was cleared.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
No one under Secret Service protection was at the White House at the time.
Suspect in Custody
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation before facing charges.
Charges include unlawful entry and fugitive from justice, stemming from an outstanding warrant in another jurisdiction.
The suspect’s identity has not been released by authorities.
The motive for the fence climb and package drop remains unclear.
