Newly released bodycam footage shows Democrat Minnesota State Senator Nicole Mitchell being caught inside her stepmother’s home during a late-night break-in.
Mitchell, 49, is facing felony burglary charges after she was arrested on April 22, 2024, inside the basement of the home around 4:45 a.m.
Bodycam Footage: “No One Stole Anything Here!”
Officers entered the house with weapons drawn and discovered Mitchell crouching in the basement.
“I was just trying to get a few of my dad’s things because he wouldn’t talk to me anymore,” Mitchell can be heard saying on camera.
As she was handcuffed and led outside, the Democrat senator pleaded, “No one stole anything here!”

Stepmother Says Mitchell Was After Inheritance
Mitchell claims she entered the home to check on her stepmother, who she says suffers from Alzheimer’s.
But her stepmother, Carol Mitchell, told police that her stepdaughter was trying to take her inheritance.
“She’s trying to get my money,” Carol reportedly told officers, also accusing the senator of orchestrating a scheme: “You had your aunts do it.”
According to investigators, Mitchell was caught with a crowbar and may have been searching for a “tin box” containing legal documents.
Courtroom Testimony Raises Questions
Carol Mitchell’s memory appeared spotty during opening testimony Tuesday. At one point, she was unable to recall what year she met her late husband or when he died.
But officers say that on the night of the incident, Carol was clear and alert when she said Mitchell “wants to take me out.”
One officer was heard on bodycam telling another, “I don’t know if it means anything, but she’s a state senator.”
