Bernie Sanders Comments on Potential 2028 Run

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) appears to be ruling out another presidential run in 2028, telling CNN on Sunday that his age “speaks for itself.”

Sanders, who turns 84 next month, made the remark during an interview on State of the Union with Dana Bash.

When asked if he might mount another campaign, the progressive firebrand responded, “Let’s not worry about that… I think that speaks for itself.”

Longtime Progressive Standard-Bearer

Sanders ran for the White House in 2016 and 2020, causing headaches for the Democratic Party establishment both times.

His 2016 insurgent campaign against Hillary Clinton fueled controversy over the party’s superdelegate system — a setup many believe was altered to benefit Clinton.

In 2020, the Democratic primary saw nearly every other candidate drop out and endorse Joe Biden just before the South Carolina primary, a move widely seen as an effort to stop Sanders’ momentum.

Staying Active in Politics

While signaling the end of his presidential ambitions, Sanders said he will remain active in shaping the Democratic Party’s agenda, focusing on educating, organizing, and promoting policies he claims will help working-class Americans.

He expressed confidence Democrats can recover lost ground with working-class voters through grassroots efforts, even after years of losing support among that demographic.

Sanders has remained in the spotlight with his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour, often joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other progressive allies.
