Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is no stranger to headlines, but this time it wasn’t her policies or progressive agenda making waves. The firebrand congresswoman addressed swirling pregnancy rumors on social media.
“[People] keep asking me if I’m pregnant,” Ocasio-Cortez shared. “Actually, a member—a Republican—came to me on the floor this week and asked me if I was pregnant.”
“I’m not pregnant, guys. I just had a lot of food at Thanksgiving. Okay? It happens,” she added with a shrug.
Speculation about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s personal life has long captivated both critics and supporters, with the 34-year-old congresswoman frequently finding herself under a microscope. Despite the chatter, Ocasio-Cortez is keeping her focus on other matters.
However, her recent bid to become the ranking Democrat on the influential House Oversight Committee met a decisive defeat last week, with veteran legislator Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) securing the position in a 131-84 vote. Connolly, a seasoned lawmaker with a reputation for experience and steady communication, had the backing of party leadership, including former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who opposed Ocasio-Cortez’s candidacy.
