The Department of Homeland Security reported Saturday that a group of U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents (CBP), who were conducting immigration enforcement in Chicago, had been shot in an apparent coordinated attack.
DHS released a statement stating that agents were performing operations at 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue, when a male driver in a black Jeep fired several shots before fleeing. A “unknown” number of protesters also threw paint cans and bricks towards federal vehicles.
Chicago Police Department then was called to assist in clearing the scene. Both the vehicle and shooter remain on the loose in what DHS called a “dynamic scenario” as of this report.
A helicopter hovers above the police officers in footage obtained at the scene. Greg Bovino was on the scene personally to assess the situation. He is the Border Patrol’s Commander at Large and oversees the enforcement efforts of “Operation Midway Blitz”.
As Bovino, a team of agents and many agitators tried to clean up the area, a large group of people — some of whom spoke Spanish — hurled objects in their direction.

This incident was not an isolated event, but reflects the dangerous and growing trend of violence. In the last two months we have seen an increased number of assaults on federal law enforcement officers during their operations,” DHS published. These confrontations show the daily dangers that our agents are exposed to and the increasing aggression towards law enforcement. “The violence must stop.”
This latest incident occurs just a few weeks after federal officers , while on immigration enforcement in Chicago, were “boxed-in” with multiple vehicles and armed attackers. Since several weeks, agents have been under constant attack in Chicago, particularly around a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility located in Broadview.
This attack, which appears to be coordinated in nature, is also consistent with the disturbing trend of leftist organized violence against federal agents. A police officer in Alvarado was injured in the neck during the holiday weekend of July 4, after a group of Antifa militants staged an ambush attack in front of an ICE facility. A group of Antifa-linked militants set up an ambush outside an ICE facility by vandalizing cars and throwing fireworks to attract agents. Another group was hiding in the woods with semiautomatic weapons.
The ambush attack has been linked to 11 different individuals.
The story is still developing.
