After another successful night for progressive Democrats, Decision DeskHQ predicted that community organizer Katie Wilson was poised to depose Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell.
We’re delighted with the recent drop in votes, which is continuing to move our way. We are now confident that our lead of almost 2,000 voters is insurmountable,” Wilson’s Facebook campaign stated.
The post continued, “We are so thankful to all of the volunteers that have helped this grassroots campaign win.” We look forward to tomorrow’s mayor’s speech to the city. #thisisYOURcity.”
Harrell has not yet conceded. Washington state law only allows for an automatic recount if there is less than 2,000 voters and less than 1/2 a percentage. Harrell, however, could pay the cost himself.

Like New York City, the race became a test of national strength between left-wing activists and traditional Democrats. The ballot counting took days, as Wilson, an alleged progressive crusader slowly outpaced the incumbent.
Wilson was the underdog in the general elections despite winning the primary election earlier this year. Harrell dominated her fundraising efforts and the establishment of the city was firmly behind him.
Wilson’s victory is a follow-up to another progressive triumph, which occurred last week when New Yorkers elected Democratic Socialist Zohran Mddani as Mayor. This double-punch signals the growing influence of progressives in blue-held areas.
