Watch: Over 100 Vehicles Take Over NJ Streets — Fireworks Fired at Police

Police in Secaucus, New Jersey, faced a chaotic scene over Labor Day weekend when a mob of drivers and onlookers launched fireworks at patrol cars during a massive late-night street takeover.

The Incident

At around 2 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to reports of over 100 vehicles driving recklessly, with cars spinning donuts at the intersection of Secaucus Road and County Avenue.

When police arrived, more than 50 individuals surrounded law enforcement vehicles, with some climbing onto the hoods and roofs.

The confrontation escalated as individuals shot fireworks at and under police cruisers, turning them into “incendiary devices,” according to officials.

Police Response

No officers were reported injured, but the cruisers sustained damage. Backup units from nearby towns were called in to help disperse the unruly crowd.

Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller praised his officers for showing restraint during the confrontation but condemned the violence.

“Our officers came under attack last night and I will not tolerate this unrest,” Miller said in a statement. “I will be dedicating resources from our Traffic Bureau, Detective Division, Patrol Division and Intelligence Section to assemble a Task Force to identify the individuals responsible … Secaucus is not going to be the place where these criminals operate with impunity!”

Ongoing Investigation

Police are now reviewing videos of the incident and urging the public to help identify suspects. Authorities warned that anyone involved in damaging vehicles or attacking officers will face prosecution.

The event underscores a growing trend of street takeovers across the U.S., where large groups block intersections for stunt driving, often overwhelming law enforcement response.
