Trump Calls for George Soros and His Son to Be Charged with RICO

President Donald Trump on Wednesday escalated his attacks on billionaire George Soros, warning on social media that he is “watching” Soros and accusing him of funding groups tied to violent protests in the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed Soros and his “group of psychopaths,” which he said included “Crazy, West Coast friends,” have done “great damage” to the country. He further suggested Soros and his son, Alex Soros, should face racketeering charges.

“George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America,” Trump wrote. “We’re not going to allow these lunatics to rip apart America any more, never giving it so much as a chance to ‘BREATHE,’ and be FREE … Be careful, we’re watching you!”

The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act is a federal law often used to target organized crime.

Soros Organization Responds

The Open Society Foundations (OSF), founded by George Soros and now chaired by Alex Soros, denied Trump’s allegations.

“The Open Society Foundations do not support or fund violent protests,” a spokesperson told The National News Desk. “Our mission is to advance human rights, justice, and democratic principles at home and around the world.”

OSF said it provides grants to a wide range of nonprofits across the United States that “work to advance human rights, freedom, and justice and to defend democracy.” The group acknowledged that some grantees engage in civic activism, but emphasized that it is peaceful and legal.

“We do not pay people to protest or directly train or coordinate protestors,” the spokesperson said. “All OSF grantees are required to comply with the law and we expect our grantees to uphold our shared commitment to human rights, dignity, and nonviolence.”

Soros Funding in Focus

The New York Post recently reported that OSF gave $4 million in 2023 to Community Change and Community Change Action, organizations that focus on mobilizing low-income communities of color.

Those groups have supported “Free DC,” an advocacy organization that has staged protests critical of Trump.
