California Gov. Gavin Newsom said that he recently received a “Trump 2028” hat from a supporter of former President Donald Trump, which he cited as a sign that Trump could seek a third term.
Newsom suggested Trump could run again beyond 2028.
“You will have a president who will be running for a third term. Mark my word. I wasn’t exaggerating when I said that I received in the mail a Trump 2028 hat from one of his biggest supporters,” Newsom said.
Trump has occasionally joked about serving a third term and has been seen displaying Trump 2028 hats at events, most recently during a meeting with the president of Azerbaijan.

Redistricting Announcement
Newsom was speaking in downtown Los Angeles while announcing a plan to redraw California’s congressional districts.
The proposal would target five Republican-held seats, which Democrats have described as a response to GOP-led redistricting in Texas.
Immigration Agents Nearby
During the press conference, federal immigration agents were positioned near the event and made arrests, which Newsom linked to the broader debate over federal authority.
He warned that the timing and location of the arrests reflected what he described as “authoritarian tendencies” under Trump.
