A man identified as Mohamed Mohamed, 39, was arrested after raping an unconscious 34-year-old homeless woman in front of a church on Nolensville Pike Thursday night, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
The victim later died at a hospital.
Fire Crew Witnessed Assault
A Nashville Fire Department crew driving to a call saw the assault unfolding on the sidewalk and immediately intervened.
The firefighters detained Mohamed as he was attempting to pull the victim’s pants back up, then called police and rendered aid to the woman.
She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Surveillance Video Shows Attack
Video surveillance shows the victim struggling to walk before sitting on the church steps.
Mohamed approached, sat beside her, and began making physical contact as she drifted in and out of consciousness.
Despite her attempts to push him away, he lifted her off the steps, laid her on the ground, and repeatedly sexually assaulted her.
Mohamed in Custody
Mohamed was taken to police headquarters but refused to be interviewed. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $300,000.
Detectives are awaiting results from the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the woman’s cause of death.
She carried no identification, and officials are working to confirm her identity through fingerprints.
