During a briefing with reporters on Thursday a Biden-appointed U.S. Attorney vowed to prosecute Americans who didn’t enter the Capitol on January 6, “but knowingly entered the restricted area” on Capitol grounds.
In a clip shared on X by “ALX,” D.C. U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves began, “An important note when it comes to our prosecutions about those who remained outside of the building.”
“We have used our prosecutorial discretion to primarily focus on those who entered the building and those who engaged in violent or corrupt conduct on Capitol grounds,” Graves explained.
Graves then suggested, “But if a person knowingly entered the restricted area without authorization, they had already committed a federal crime.”
“Make no mistake, thousands of people occupied an area that they were not authorized to be present in in the first place,” Graves concluded in the clip.

ABC News reported that Graves’ presentation included a detailed look at the evidence amassed by prosecutors that, to date, his office has only detailed in court filings or in trials at the D.C. federal courthouse.
“It’s critical that we remember the collective harm that was done on Jan. 6, 2021, and understand how it happened, so that we can ensure it never happens again,” Graves claimed.
Joe Biden released a statement on X where he said, “Three years ago, a violent mob fueled by lies attacked the U.S. Capitol. Our democracy was tested. But it held because We the People prevailed.”
“It’s up to us to prove – for all its imperfections – American democracy is still a beacon to the world and a promise to be kept,” Biden insisted.

In May, U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) introduced a resolution to impeach Graves “for endangering, compromising, and undermining the justice system of the United States by facilitating the explosion of violent crime in the Nation’s capital.”
