Watch: Stephen Colbert Needles Kamala Harris After She Fails to Answer Simple Question

Former Vice President Kamala Harris struggled to answer a simple question during a Wednesday interview with Stephen Colbert, prompting a wave of mockery online and visible frustration from the left-leaning host.

Appearing on The Late Show to promote her new book 107 Days, Harris was asked to name the current leader of the Democratic Party — a question that left her flustered and unwilling to commit to even a single name.

“There are lots of leaders,” Harris said, dodging the question.

Colbert pressed further, insisting, “There’s generally a leader,” but Harris refused to name one.

“I think it is a mistake… to put it on the shoulders of any one person,” she added.

Cringe Moment Goes Viral

Clips of the exchange quickly went viral, with conservatives and moderates alike calling out the vacuum of leadership in the Democratic Party and Harris’ refusal to address it.

“Kamala was asked who currently leads the Democrat Party. She looked down, mumbled ‘there’s a lot of leaders,’ and couldn’t name a single one. Brutal.” – @bennyjohnson

“‘A lot of leaders’ is a fun way to say ‘leaderless,’” one X user posted.

Others called the moment “word soup,” a label often used to describe Harris’ meandering public statements.

Who She Could Have Named

Observers pointed out that Harris had multiple high-profile Democrats to choose from, including:

  • Gavin Newsom, Governor of California

  • Pete Buttigieg, former Transportation Secretary

  • Hakeem Jeffries, House Minority Leader

  • Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader

But the former VP didn’t mention any of them — a decision some interpreted as a sign of deep disarray within Democratic leadership.

Harris Promotes Her Memoir Amid 2028 Speculation

Harris’ appearance came ahead of the release of her new memoir 107 Days, which she described as a “behind-the-scenes” look at her failed 2024 presidential bid.

While Harris recently announced she will not run for governor of California, she has not ruled out a 2028 presidential bid, fueling speculation about her political future.

Colbert Wraps It Up Swiftly

Following the awkward exchange, Colbert quickly ended the interview — marking what may be his final sit-down with Harris, as his talk show is reportedly set to be canceled.
