In a major victory for women’s sports and biological fairness, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) has announced that men who claim to be women will no longer be allowed to compete in Olympic women’s categories—a direct result of President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14201 issued in February.
The new eligibility policy, published Monday under the USOPC Athlete Safety Policy, stops short of using the term “transgender,” but the implications are clear: biological males are now barred from competing against women in Olympic sports.
“As a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations,” the committee said in a statement, referencing the president’s order.
Trump’s Executive Order Restores Title IX Protections
President Trump’s Executive Order 14201 was clear: women and girls are entitled to fair, safe, and dignified competition, free from the intrusion of male athletes in female spaces.
“This is demeaning, unfair, and dangerous to women and girls,” the order stated.
“It shall be the policy of the United States to oppose male competitive participation in women’s sports more broadly.”
Trump also directed that federal funding be rescinded from any educational institution or program that deprives women and girls of equal athletic opportunity.
USOPC Responds: No More Men in Women’s Sports
The USOPC’s updated policy now requires all national governing bodies—including those overseeing youth and collegiate sports—to align with the federal standard. This follows a growing list of national sports bodies rolling back prior gender policies.
For example, U.S.A. Fencing recently ruled that trans-identified males may only compete in men’s categories.
“The USOPC will continue to collaborate… to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment,” the committee stated.
The policy shift marks a major departure from the committee’s previous “science-based” approach, which permitted gender-identified males to compete on a case-by-case basis.
Widespread Praise from Women’s Advocates
Conservative commentator and former NCAA athlete Riley Gaines praised the move, noting:
“It’s hard to applaud an organization for merely following the law, but nonetheless, this is a win.”
Legal analyst Sarah Parshall Perry added:
“Sanity has prevailed in Olympic Sports—trans-identified men are now banned from competing in women’s Olympic categories.”
Social media erupted with support from women’s advocates, athletes, and parents who have long demanded the return of fairness and safety to women’s sports.
