James Comey Breaks Silence After DOJ Fires Daughter

Former FBI Director James Comey broke his silence Sunday night with a lengthy and emotional video posted to his Substack, lashing out at President Donald Trump and senior officials at the Department of Justice after the firing of his daughter, Maurene Comey, from the Southern District of New York.

Maurene Comey, a federal prosecutor who held high-profile roles in controversial cases—including Jeffrey Epstein—was terminated last week via memo from Main Justice. No specific reason was given, according to the Associated Press.

Her sudden firing has sparked fierce backlash from the Comey family, who claim it was politically motivated.

Maurene Comey: “Fear is the Tool of a Tyrant”

In a farewell message to colleagues, Maurene Comey didn’t mention Trump by name but made clear her anger toward the current administration:

“Fear is the tool of a tyrant, wielded to suppress independent thought.”

She warned her peers that her dismissal might have a chilling effect on prosecutors across the department:

“If a career prosecutor can be fired without reason, fear may seep into the decisions of those who remain.”

Comey closed her message by encouraging prosecutors to press forward with “righteous indignation” and remain “dedicated to truth above all else.”

James Comey Uses Daughter’s Firing to Attack Trump

In a five-minute video, James Comey read his daughter’s letter aloud and accused President Trump and his Justice Department team of “hammering at the dam” of the DOJ’s credibility.

“Trump and the hacks who lead the Department of Justice are trying to turn it into just another gold-leaf-covered Trump subsidiary,” Comey said.

He claimed Trump-era officials were eroding a so-called “reservoir of trust” at DOJ, and warned there would be “hard weeks” ahead.

“You may get fired for doing the right thing… but there’s honor in that,” he said.

Comey—who was fired by Trump in 2017 after launching the discredited Trump-Russia investigation—has remained a vocal critic of the former president.

Political Fallout

Maurene Comey’s firing comes amid growing efforts inside the Trump administration to remove entrenched partisans from key positions across federal agencies. Critics say Comey’s tenure and high-profile cases raised serious questions about impartiality, particularly in politically sensitive prosecutions.

While Democrats and media allies have rushed to frame her dismissal as an attack on justice, others see it as part of a necessary cleanup of a deeply politicized DOJ.
