Jeffrey Epstein’s former attorney Alan Dershowitz now says he believes Epstein killed himself in 2019 — but may not have acted alone.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed, Dershowitz wrote, “It is clear from the evidence that Epstein committed suicide. What isn’t clear is whether he was assisted by jail personnel. That seems likely to me, based on the evidence of allegedly broken cameras, transfer of his cellmate and the absence of guards during relevant time periods.”
Dershowitz stopped short of backing theories that Epstein was murdered, but he made clear there are serious problems with the government’s official account.
Among the suspicious elements:
These issues have fueled speculation that someone helped Epstein carry out the act — or covered it up.
No “Client List,” But Names Are Sealed
The Department of Justice recently released a memo saying:
Dershowitz agrees that a list never existed. But he confirmed that the FBI collected accusers’ claims naming alleged Epstein “clients.” Those names have been sealed and redacted by the courts.
“I know who they are,” Dershowitz said. “They don’t include any current officeholders.”
He also noted that the court has sealed negative information about some accusers, not just alleged clients.
Only One Person Convicted So Far
So far, Ghislaine Maxwell remains the only person convicted in connection with Epstein’s crimes. She’s serving 20 years in a Tallahassee federal prison and is currently appealing her case.
Call for the Media to Act
Dershowitz ended with a challenge to the press:
“The media can and should petition the courts for the release of all names and information, so the public can draw its own conclusions.”
