Republican House Republicans have launched a formal impeachment investigation on President Joe Biden. The move, spearheaded by Chairmen James Comer (R-KY), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Jason Smith (R-MO), is a significant step forward in the ongoing investigations into the Biden family’s international business operations and the President’s involvement.
The investigation, as disclosed in a September memorandum, focuses on three important claims. The most famous of these is the assertion that the Biden family, including the President’s son, Hunter Biden, received more than $24 million in international aid between 2014 and 2019. These monies are said to have come from Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Romania, and China.
The transactions’ sophistication, which the Committees described as “exceedingly complex,” shows an intentional attempt to conceal the origin and route of these cash. This part of the probe raises the possibility of ethical and legal crimes, casting an increasing pall over the Biden administration.
Furthermore, the investigation suggests that President Biden was directly involved in these international commercial operations. Contrary to his prior public assertions, evidence reveals that Joe Biden was not only aware of his family’s economic ventures, but actively participated in them.
“Joe Biden, as Vice President and/or President, abused his office of public trust by knowingly participating in a scheme to enrich himself or his family by giving foreign interests the impression that they would receive access to him and his office in exchange for payments to his family or him … As reviewed above, Joe Biden was called into business meetings,” the memorandum stated.
The examination by the House Oversight Committee revealed that these were not simply personal transactions from Hunter Biden’s account, but payments from a corporate organization that had received monies from multiple sources, including China. This is especially troubling given the continuing DOJ investigation into Hunter Biden for tax fraud and other severe violations such as utilizing Owasco P.C. as a conduit.
The Republican-led Committees also accused the Biden Administration of hindering Hunter Biden’s criminal investigation. Allegations that Department of Justice workers are obstructing investigations and hampering prosecution efforts are especially alarming. If verified, these actions could indicate deeper corruption inside the administration, potentially involving the President himself.
According to written evidence from IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, FBI and IRS agents intended to question Hunter on December 8, 2020. However, on December 7, 2020, FBI headquarters informed the Secret Service and the Biden transition team of the planned measures for the next day. A transcribed interview with a retired FBI Supervisory Special Agent confirmed this account.
The memorandum defines the impeachment inquiry’s aim, emphasizing its role in assessing if President Biden committed impeachable offenses. Bribery, abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and other high crimes and misdemeanors could be among them. The inquiry’s goal is to acquire the material needed to evaluate the President’s behavior and recommend appropriate actions, including the preparation of articles of impeachment.
