2024 Presidential Candidate Nikki Haley: ‘It’s Time to Raise the Retirement Age’

Nikki Haley, ex-Governor of South Carolina and a contender for the GOP presidential nomination, talked about the pressing issue of reforming entitlements in the United States.

She specifically focused on Social Security and Medicare.

Haley is currently on a media tour with the liberal news network.

While on “Squawk Box,” Haley stressed the need to address the impending insolvency of Social Security and Medicare, pointing out deadlines of ten years and eight years, respectively.

“Social Security goes bankrupt in ten years. Medicare goes bankrupt in eight,” she said.

“Anyone that says they’re not going to take on entitlement reform means they’re going to go in and be president and leave the country bankrupt.

“You can’t do that.”

Haley underscored the importance of adjusting Social Security policies to align with the rising life expectancy.

She proposed raising the retirement age for new beneficiaries and recommended tying cost-of-living increases to inflation.

Additionally, she suggested limiting benefits for the wealthy and expanding the Medicare Advantage plan to boost competition.

“For everybody coming into the system like my kids in their 20s, you change it,” Haley stated.

“You say we’re going to raise the retirement age to reflect life expectancy.

“We’re no longer going to do cost of living increases.

“We’re going to do increases based on inflation.

“We’re going to limit the benefits on the wealthy and we’re going to expand the Medicare Advantage plan so that we have more competition.

“We have to start looking at a common-sense way to do it without hurting people. But our kids know they’re not going to get it otherwise,” she added.

Still, the United States is currently undergoing its most significant drop in life expectancy since the periods of World War I and the Great Influenza, as reported by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

She is right about the programs that soon will not be able to support recipients at the same level, but this article does not mention that she is also demanding that everyone on the Internet be registered in their real name, because she wants government to know who is saying what. IOW, she wants to abolish anonymity on the Internet so the government will be able to know who said what and be able to catch and punish people who say things the government doesn’t like. Our Founding Fathers used pen names to avoid being caught and punished by the British government. Our current government wants to impose ESG scoring to punish people who say what the government doesn’t want to hear, and no free people should ever have to be subject to such government repression.  source: tusksearch.com search terms niki haley wants to end privacy

Dear Nikki, Social Security is not an entitlement. The government forcibly took money out of each paycheck to force us to save for our retirement.

That’s correct. Then the government dipped into it and have used OUR money as their own slush fund for many years.

Hey Asshole – this is not an entitlement – it’s been funded by US our entire working lives and unfortunately for US, presidents have been dipping into this fund since at least Johnson. Anything left for us?

Not much. I’m a widow. When my husband died, I applied for and was able to have his social security added to my own, which helped a lot. But every time there is a cost-of-living or some other type of a positive income adjustment made by the government, Social Security puts the increase into my own Social Security account, BUT IT THEN turns around and decreases my deceased husband’s social security amount by that SAME amount. I may see a very small monthly increase but that’s pretty much all. When they say we Social Security recipients are going to receive, say, $50/more a month in a cost of living increase, what they don’t say, is that they will remove that same $50 that they gave you from your deceased spouse’s social security monthly amount that you are currently entitled to receive. They subtract that $50 cost of living amount from his account, then reevaluate the total amount you will now receive going forward. It might be a couple of dollars due to any changes in the tax code. They give with one hand and take it back with the other.

She just lost my vote. The government has used Social Security as their own play-money for years, dipping into it to fund their assorted special projects. The government should be forced to put back – with interest – all of the money they have taken out of it to use for their own fun and games. She certainly seems unenlightened about why Social Security is in the shape it is in.

If there is anyone reading this article that was planning to vote for Nikki, I hope you will seriously reconsider your decision. Govt mismanagement got them (and us) into this predicament, so insist that they get themselves out, WITHOUT TAKING IT OUT ON YOU. The human body cannot and should not be expected to work the same way it did when it was younger. Making people work until they are in their late 60’s or their 70’s is outrageous and unreasonable. Also, the govt insisting on knowing every move you make, or every word that you say, is a violation of your constitutional rights.
