Watch: Smuggling Tunnel with Electricity and Ventilation from Mexico to US Discovered

A manmade smuggling tunnel with electricity and ventilation from Ciudad Juarez to the US side of the border in El Paso was recently discovered.

A Border Patrol spox thanked Mexican law enforcement as well as US CBP and local authorities in Texas for working together to discover the sophisticated smuggling operation.

The tunnel is six feet tall and four feet wide, according to CBP.

Mexican law enforcement received tips about people entering a sewer in Juarez.

We are getting a look inside a smuggling tunnel was discovered Friday afternoon in the Lower Valley after a bi-national operation.

Claudio Herrera-Baeza, spokesperson with the U.S. Border Patrol in El Paso, said that thanks to an operation involving Mexican law enforcement as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Texas Department of Safety, El Paso Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI, a man-made tunnel believed to be used by smugglers was found at the border wall, parallel to Loop 375, near the big red “X” in Ciudad Juarez.

Herrera Baeza said the tunnel starts in Juarez and ends here on the El Paso side of the border.

According to a press release from Mexican officials, security agents deployed in the municipality received citizen reports about people entering a sewer.
