President Donald Trump voiced his support on Wednesday for Vice President JD Vance’s view that the ongoing Iran war negatively impacted Republican prospects in the midterm elections, while defending his choice to engage in the conflict.
Speaking at a White House event, Trump recognized the political ramifications tied to rising gas prices but reaffirmed the necessity of his stance on the war.
“I think it’s largely true,” Trump commented, yet added, “If I had to do it again, I’d have to do it again.”
He emphasized the critical need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability, regardless of how it might influence election outcomes.
Vance’s detailed analysis on X sparked discussions concerning the GOP’s electoral losses, and Trump appreciated his vice president’s insights.
“I know how he feels about it,” Trump remarked. “I think it was fine; I thought it was good.”

“I know how he feels…it was good.”
“We knew that. I knew that when I went in. And we stopped them from having a nuclear weapon.”

Donald Trump Jr. also endorsed Vance’s comments, sharing the post on X to amplify its underlying message.
Vance asserted that the issues for Republicans extended beyond mere voter turnout, noting that many who supported the Trump-Vance ticket in 2024 had shifted allegiance to Democrats.
He referenced polling data suggesting that winning back those voters would necessitate an end to the war, addressing inflation, and adhering to America First principles while reevaluating the U.S. stance on Israel.
Vance pointed out Trump’s own acknowledgment of the war’s influence on the election results.
He urged supporters of the conflict to recognize its political impact, challenging them: “If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next six years was worth it, then do so,” he said, advocating for an honest dialogue.
Vance concluded his message by motivating committed supporters to mobilize and elect Republicans aligned with their values.
