Vermont’s Governor Phil Scott has successfully clinched his sixth term, overcoming a strong challenge from Democrat Amanda Janoo in a fiercely competitive race.
The election unfolded with Janoo conceding around 11 p.m., concluding a campaign that many polls indicated was neck-and-neck as Election Day approached.
Janoo, an economist and newcomer in politics, garnered a considerable volunteer base of 1,500 as part of her Democratic-Progressive campaign, making it a tough race for Scott as he aimed for another two years in office.
Despite her defeat, Janoo criticized former President Donald Trump while acknowledging Scott’s efforts.
“I want to congratulate Governor Scott on his victory. And I do genuinely want to thank him for his service to the state in this moment,” she stated, warning that her campaign’s vision still needed momentum for the future.
In his victory speech, Scott emphasized the necessity of curbing expenditure and reducing taxes, arguing that Vermont’s residents cannot bear further financial burdens when their wages aren’t increasing accordingly.

Scott called on both sides of the aisle to collaborate, highlighting the importance of affordability while urging for a bipartisan approach to governance.
“My commitment to you has not changed. I will continue to support a more affordable Vermont,” Scott affirmed, pledging to focus on economic growth and responsible spending. He underscored the need for increasing taxpayers rather than taxes, asserting that both state spending and tax burdens should not outpace Vermonters’ incomes.
He extended an invitation to legislative leaders across parties, emphasizing that constructive dialogue and cooperation are essential for Vermont’s progress, even amid differing opinions.
