A chaotic scene outside President Donald Trump’s rally in Ohio led to claims that a supporter had been stabbed. However, local law enforcement has clarified that an officer’s pocketknife was tangled in the individual’s shirt, not a weapon used in an attack.
The event took place at the Shoemaker Center at Ohio University Chillicothe as Trump addressed his supporters ahead of the upcoming Nov. 3 midterms.
Footage shared on social media displayed what seemed to be a knife protruding from a man’s back, alarming those in attendance.
Chillicothe Police Department officials assert that the distressing video does not depict an actual stabbing. Police Captain Micheal Short stated, “There was no stabbing,” as inquiries into the incident grew.
Authorities revealed that while separating two people in an altercation, the clip of the officer’s pocketknife became wedged in one individual’s clothing. The knife, according to the police, remained closed, contradicting the allegations that a stabbing had taken place.
This explanation arose amidst a surge of speculation and accusations of violence directed at Trump supporters following the video’s dissemination.
Conservative activist Tyler Bowyer was one of many who shared the footage, initially claiming that an anti-Trump protester stabbed a rally-goer. He remarked, “Apparently some crazy anti-Trump person stabbed a Trump supporter outside his rally in Ohio. This is more of the insane political violence stoked by the Left. Pray for the person who was stabbed.”
While police have not confirmed any stabbing, the viral footage captured the chaos as the man questioned officers about the object in his clothing. He was heard asking, “Is there a knife in my back? I think I’ve been stabbed.”
As officers investigated, onlookers expressed concern and disbelief at the scene unfolding. Witnesses reacted, with one woman exclaiming, “Oh my god,” as she noticed the handle of the pocketknife.
Another bystander pointed at someone nearby and declared, “Arrest that m**********, he stabbed him.” The escalating situation fostered tension between spectators and law enforcement, with demands for arrest filling the air.
The man eventually seated himself on the sidewalk, and witnesses continued to document the unfolding drama.

One person filming the commotion cautioned the crowd, saying, “stay back, stay back.” The footage clearly displayed the orange handle of the pocketknife protruding from the man’s shirt.
Police confirmed that the knife belonged to an officer who intervened during the initial altercation. The incident coincided with Trump campaigning in Ohio alongside Republican figures, including Senator Jon Husted, during his final push before the midterms.
While Trump spoke inside, officers managed the situation outside, and detailed information regarding the individuals involved or the cause of the brawl was not immediately revealed.
This episode illustrates the rapid escalation of fear and speculation around politically charged events, with serious allegations emerging before all facts are thoroughly vetted. Despite the alarming imagery captured in the video, local authorities have firmly rejected any narrative of a stabbing incident.
