The U.S. economy performed impressively over the summer, with a growth report that exceeded expectations right before the midterm elections.
According to recent updates, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew at an annualized rate of 3.4% from July to September, a notable increase from the previous quarter’s 2.2%.
This outstanding performance surpassed economists’ forecasts of approximately 3% growth, showcasing the economy’s strength amidst ongoing inflation and rising energy prices.
Consumer spending played a pivotal role in this expansion, climbing at a 3.8% annualized rate in the third quarter. Higher-income families have particularly benefitted, adapting well to the heightened costs.
Moreover, the surge in artificial intelligence investment is fuelling business growth, as technology firms continue to invest heavily in data centers and related infrastructure.

Investment in business sectors, excluding housing, increased by 12.7%, with expenditures on information-processing equipment rising a remarkable 37.4%.
These favorable figures come just five days ahead of the November 3 midterm elections, providing President Trump and Republican leaders with a compelling economic narrative to maintain Congressional control.
Despite the positive GDP growth, many citizens express frustration regarding the cost of living. Numerous Americans still grapple with soaring prices on essential goods, and ongoing geopolitical tensions, like the conflict with Iran, have led to increased gasoline and energy costs.
Thursday’s report represents the Commerce Department’s initial assessment of growth for the third quarter, with further adjustments anticipated in the months to come.
