Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., was spotted at Karmel Mall in Minneapolis, marking her first public outing since federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., residence this month.
During her visit, she had lunch with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and friends at this expansive commercial center, known for its vibrant Somali community atmosphere.
This appearance followed the Oct. 12 raid linked to a federal inquiry into alleged immigration fraud concerning the documentation tied to Omar and her family’s arrival in the U.S.
While Omar maintains her innocence and has not faced any charges, the investigation surfaced questions about her identity, with a court document referring to her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
Supporters noted that Omar, who appeared at ease during the visit, engaged with patrons and took photographs while security kept a watchful eye.
Before her mall visit, she and Ellison participated in early voting at a nearby polling station, ultimately arriving at a mall touted as the world’s largest Somali shopping center.
Fox News Digital was permitted access to the mall, which its owner, prominent real estate developer Basim Sabri, claims provides a unique shopping experience unlike traditional American malls.
The four-story shopping center houses around 900 vendors and features various businesses—from Somali clothing stores to travel agencies, creating a culturally rich environment.

Inside the mall, visitors find a dining area adorned with flags from Somalia, Palestine, and the U.S., signaling a multicultural environment.
Sabri described Karmel Mall as not just a business hub but a vital incubator for immigrant entrepreneurs, allowing them to grow before moving to larger venues.
Despite its success, Fox News Digital noted that those with cameras often face increased scrutiny within the mall.
In a unique display of influence, Sabri previously barred Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey from the mall after a political disagreement.
His connections extend throughout the community, with past relations with Omar’s family, although he refrained from divulging specifics.
Sabri’s background, which includes a federal prison sentence for bribery, does not overshadow his advocacy for local businesses, despite ongoing issues related to public assistance fraud in Minnesota.
He insists that the mall’s businesses showcase the hard work and intelligence of the Somali community, challenging stereotypes while promoting the American dream.
Sabri emphasizes that the mall represents the vast potential in immigrant entrepreneurship, inviting everyone to witness the thriving community and its achievements.
