Far-Left Protesters Clash with Federal Agents in Newark

Shocking footage from the Delaney Hall facility in Newark, New Jersey, captures far-left activists assailing federal agents undeterred. This unrest follows large crowds forming to obstruct the facility and establishing what they termed an “autonomous zone.”

Delaney Hall, a privately run Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center, has witnessed violent confrontations since President Trump resumed office last January. U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) currently faces federal charges for an earlier assault on officers during an incident at the facility.

Escalating Unrest

Recently, far-left groups, including militants displaying Antifa flags, have engaged in continuous violent protests outside Delaney Hall. These actions stem from unverified allegations regarding a hunger strike among some detainees. As tensions rose, activists attempted to fortify an “autonomous zone” where they search vehicles accessing the area.

In response to the escalating conflict, federal agents faced confrontations marked by several documented incidents between rioters and law enforcement.

Violent Confrontations

On-the-ground footage shows crowds of protesters engaging in confrontational actions against agents, such as shoving, throwing objects, and obstructing federal vehicles. Many clips highlight moments where protesters interacted physically with ICE agents in tactical gear, leading to confrontations where individuals had to be forcibly removed.

Armored vehicles were stationed at the site, with agents donning vests marked “POLICE ICE” forming lines to control the crowd. Some footage shows protesters blocking government vehicles, while agents worked to clear the area. Traffic disruptions spiraled as the protests continued.

Crowd Control Measures

In order to regain access, agents resorted to deploying less-than-lethal crowd control measures, and multiple arrests occurred throughout the day.

The chaos primarily revolves around demonstrator claims and local elected officials suggesting that around 300 detainees initiated a hunger strike around May 22 due to facility conditions. However, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials have disputed these claims, asserting that detainees receive adequate meals and care, prompting a suspension of visitations at the site.

“This is merely a political spectacle orchestrated by New Jersey’s sanctuary politicians for fundraising. There is NO hunger strike at Delaney Hall, nor substandard conditions,” stated DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin on X. He further criticized local Democrats, including Governor Mikie Sherrill and Senator Andy Kim, who sought access to the facility.

“They should express gratitude toward our law enforcement for removing dangerous individuals from their state. Would they want these criminals living next to them? We need these politicians to stop spreading misinformation and assist us in eliminating these threats from their community,” Mullin asserted.
