In a stunning incident during an air show at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, two U.S. Navy jets collided midair. Fortunately, all four crew members successfully ejected and were taken for medical assessment.
The crash involved two Navy EA-18G Growlers from Electronic Attack Squadron 129, based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, as explained by Cmdr. Amelia Umayam, a spokesperson for Naval Air Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation.
Base officials confirmed that all crew members were in stable condition. No injuries were reported on the ground, as stated by event organizers.
“Everyone is safe and I think that’s the most important thing,” remarked Kim Sykes, marketing director with Silver Wings of Idaho, a group involved in organizing the event.
Following the collision, the base initiated a lockdown and canceled the remaining air show activities.
Videos shared online by spectators depicted four parachutes descending through the sky as the aircraft plummeted nearby, situated roughly 50 miles south of Boise.
The EA-18G Growler is an advanced variant of the F/A-18 Super Hornet, equipped with state-of-the-art electronic warfare systems, with each aircraft commanding a price tag of about $67 million.
