During President Trump’s recent trip to China, his son Eric Trump became the center of a legal controversy involving MSNBC host Jen Psaki. Eric, part of the delegation, is not an official government member.
MSNBC aired commentary questioning the appropriateness of Eric’s presence, implying it mixed family business interests with official diplomatic efforts. In response, Eric announced plans to sue Psaki and the network over what he claims are unfounded accusations.
In his online statement, he emphasized, “I intend to sue @jrpsaki and @MSNOWNews over the below clip,” refuting Psaki’s remarks. He highlighted that he has never been part of ALT5’s board and urged those interested to check public records.
Eric also denied any involvement in merger discussions involving a public company and firmly stated he has no business dealings in China. “I have zero business interests in China. No properties, no investments, nothing!” he asserted.
Claiming his trip was purely personal, he expressed his intent to support his father, stating he participated as a devoted son. While official meetings were in progress, Eric and his wife, Lara, visited the Great Wall of China.
The commentary from MSNBC sparked debate regarding the potential conflict between family interests and presidential duties. Officials from the Trump Organization clarified that Eric was in China only in a personal capacity.
Critics have raised concerns about the optics of Eric’s presence, given his leadership role in the Trump Organization, especially considering his father’s previous criticisms of Hunter Biden’s dealings in China.
Eric’s announcement did not specify the timeline or details of the lawsuit, but it indicates a strong response to perceived misinformation. As of now, neither MSNBC nor Psaki has commented publicly on the issue.
