Trump Outlines Potential Actions If Iran Neglects Peace Agreement

President Trump has made it clear that if Iran does not agree to a proposed framework for negotiations, the United States could revive and expand its halted maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz.

“We’ll pursue a different strategy if everything isn’t finalized,” Trump stated to reporters before heading to his golf club. He noted, “While Project Freedom is solid, we have additional options.”

“We may revert to Project Freedom, possibly enhanced as Project Freedom Plus,” he clarified.

This Project Freedom is a recent initiative by U.S. Central Command aimed at safeguarding commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz in response to Iranian provocations. The operation involves a substantial military presence, including destroyers, aircraft, and thousands of personnel.

Although the initiative was briefly paused to facilitate negotiations, a broader naval blockade on Iranian ports remains active. Trump characterized this pause as a collaborative decision linked to recent military successes.

The tentative framework discussed includes crucial elements related to Iran’s nuclear program and a commitment to maritime security, requiring Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions and transfer enriched uranium to the U.S.

“We will not allow them the capability to develop a nuclear weapon,” Trump affirmed earlier this week.

Meanwhile, Iranian officials have postponed their response. They have criticized the U.S. strategy, with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claiming that the U.S. is jeopardizing diplomacy through military actions.

This escalation in tensions follows Iranian attacks on U.S. Navy destroyers in the Strait of Hormuz. Central Command labeled these assaults as unprovoked, responding decisively without any recorded U.S. casualties.
