In a significant move, President Donald Trump has proposed a short-term ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, announcing that hostilities will pause for three days while discussions progress.
According to a Friday post on Truth Social, the ceasefire will take place from May 9 to May 11, coinciding with Russia’s observance of World War II’s conclusion. Trump emphasized that this will entail a cessation of all hostilities and a substantial prisoner exchange, featuring 1,000 individuals from each side.
He expressed hope that this initiative marks a turning point in a lengthy and devastating conflict, noting ongoing advancements in discussions aimed at concluding the war.
Earlier, following a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump indicated that a temporary ceasefire was being arranged. It is worth mentioning that last year, Putin proposed a similar three-day ceasefire that was not accepted by Kyiv.
