Insightful Polling Reveals Leading Candidates in Crucial GOP Races

Quantus Insights, known for its accurate polling in the 2024 presidential context, has unveiled a new survey examining the fierce competition in various Republican primary races across Georgia. This includes contests for the U.S. Senate and governor.

The survey, conducted from April 28 to May 2 with participation from 1,677 likely voters, offers a margin of error of ±2.7 percent. It not only covers the Senate and gubernatorial races but also delves into the lieutenant governor race while assessing voter ideology and the job approval of former President Trump.

In the Senate primary, U.S. Representative Mike Collins maintains a leading position at 32.6 percent. Having served Georgia’s 10th congressional district since 2023 and with a background in trucking, he surpasses former University of Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley, who is at 22.5 percent.

U.S. Rep. Buddy Carter, a pharmacist who represents Georgia’s 1st congressional district since 2015, garners 13.7 percent of the vote, while undecided voters constitute 28.6 percent of the sample.

The contest for governor sees Rick Jackson in a strong lead at 27.3 percent. As a healthcare executive who joined the race late, he emphasizes business acumen and tax reductions, putting him 5.2 points ahead of the current Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger follows closely at 14.4 percent, while Attorney General Chris Carr stands at 8 percent; 13.7 percent remain undecided.

Recent trends indicate that both Jones and Raffensperger have gained significant traction, creating a tighter contest behind Jackson.

In the lieutenant governor race, State Senator Greg Dolezal tops the poll with 19.2 percent, marking this as the most competitive race. Dolezal, representing Georgia’s 27th Senate District since 2019 and engaged in the tech industry, holds a narrow lead over former State Senate President Pro Tempore John F. Kennedy at 15.2 percent.

State Senator Blake Tillery is in third with 14 percent, and undecided voters represent the largest group at 38.2 percent.

The survey also highlights the demographics of Georgia’s Republican voters. The data reveals that 33.9 percent identify as Trump/MAGA Republicans, with 22.4 percent leaning towards “more America First than Trump/MAGA.” Additionally, 15.6 percent opt for a vote based on the individual rather than party, and 11.7 percent align with traditional Republicans.

Trump boasts an impressive 80.3 percent approval rating among those surveyed, with only 19.2 percent expressing disapproval. This reflects a predominantly Trump-friendly base, though there exists some ideological diversity influenced by candidate appeals and regional ties.

With undecided voters comprising a sizable portion of the electorate, especially in the Senate and lieutenant governor races, there remains ample room for shifts as the primaries approach. None of the leading candidates currently exceed 33 percent, keeping the potential for runoffs lively, as Georgia’s primary necessitates over 50 percent of the vote for a clear win.
