Prosecutors have unveiled a selfie that Cole Tomas Allen took about 30 minutes before his alleged attempt to breach security at the Washington Hilton, armed with two firearms and several knives.
In the image, the 31-year-old is seen smirking in a hotel-room mirror, dressed in a shirt and tie, with weapons and ammunition visibly strapped to his body, as detailed in federal court filings.
According to the prosecution, Allen snapped the selfie at approximately 8:03 p.m., just moments before actions that would send the White House Correspondents’ Dinner into disarray, forcing President Trump and the first lady to be evacuated.
Quick Progression to Violence
Investigators noted that the selfie was part of a rapid sequence leading to the alarming events of that evening. Following the photo, prosecutors claim that Allen sent pre-scheduled emails, including an “Apology and Explanation” attachment, shortly thereafter at around 8:30 p.m.
Not long after, he reportedly rushed the security checkpoint on the Terrace Level of the Washington Hilton with a shotgun raised.
