Respected Florida Congressman Announces Retirement from Politics

U.S. Representative Daniel Webster (R-FL), who has served Florida’s 11th Congressional District since 2017, announced on Tuesday that he will not pursue re-election and will retire after this congressional session.

In a statement on his official website, Webster revealed that his choice came after “much prayerful consideration and discussion with my beloved wife Sandy.” He confirmed that he will conclude his political journey next January.

“It has been an honor and privilege to represent my beloved state in the U.S. House of Representatives,” he expressed in his announcement.

Webster emphasized that he has always valued his responsibility to Florida’s hardworking families and taxpayers, aiming to advance sensible reforms. He stated, “The time has come to pass the torch to the next conservative leader and spend more precious time with my wife, children, and 24 grandchildren.”

At 77, Webster has been involved in Florida politics since the 1980s, having held notable positions like speaker of the Florida House and majority leader of the Florida Senate. His contributions have been pivotal in reinforcing Florida’s Republican dominance.

In his release, Webster reflected on various achievements. He mentioned initiatives to eliminate burdensome regulations, enhance infrastructure, and secure vital resources for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Additionally, he highlighted his role in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which supported small businesses, and his advocacy for including a Social Security income tax credit in recent legislation. “Fighting to protect our freedoms, values, life, and liberty has energized me every day,” he affirmed.

Florida’s 11th Congressional District encompasses parts of Lake, Orange, Polk, and Sumter counties. According to the Cook Political Report, the district leans Republican with a partisan voting index of R+8, indicating a significant Republican advantage in upcoming elections. The prospect for 2026 is currently rated as Solid Republican.
