Baylor University Accused of Undermining TPUSA Gathering

Baylor University is under scrutiny for purportedly attempting to thwart a Turning Point USA event featuring Border Czar Tom Homan. The organization claims the administration blocked thousands of ticket holders from the Waco community.

This event, set to take place in Waco Hall, is hosted by Baylor’s Turning Point USA chapter and includes Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and conservative podcast host Benny Johnson as part of their “This is the Turning Point Tour.”

Initially, the event was approved to welcome both students and local attendees, but the organization later found out that approximately 4,500 individuals who reserved tickets would not be permitted to attend.

“This event was originally designed to be open to both the student body and local Waco community,” stated a TPUSA representative. “In a close-knit community like Waco, where the university plays a central role, it seems odd not to allow community access.”

The representative explained that Turning Point USA had anticipated a full house, having secured a larger venue, only to discover later that the university restricted access to those not affiliated with the school.

“We reserved a venue ample enough for all ticket holders, only to have the university officials ultimately deny their entry,” the spokesperson expressed.

While it is regrettable that 4,500 individuals will miss out, the spokesperson reassured that Border Czar Homan, AG Paxton, and Benny Johnson will focus on the students and put on a great show.

Additionally, Turning Point USA mentioned that Baylor sanctioned a counter event intended to protest their organization. They also highlighted the loss of their founder, Charlie Kirk, who was tragically killed while speaking at an outdoor event in September.

Moreover, TPUSA reported that Baylor officials had warned their staff members, present on campus to distribute promotional materials, about potential consequences. The organization also indicated that they were instructed by Baylor not to stream the event.

However, Baylor countered these allegations. Sharra Hynes, the Vice President for Student Life, told Breitbart News that it was made clear to the event organizers from the onset that attendance would be limited to students, faculty, and staff, alongside a select number of invited guests.

“The University communicated to event organizers from the beginning that attendance would be restricted to students, faculty, and staff, with just 125 invited guests from the organizing groups,” Hynes said.

Turning Point USA also shared a letter to prospective attendees stating that due to specific university regulations, entry was limited solely to Baylor students. They expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, acknowledging that various attempts to include the broader Waco community had been denied.

Furthermore, they noted that many students had reserved tickets, and an estimated 4,500 non-students had also signed up.

“Waco Hall was selected as it could accommodate a larger crowd, reflecting the importance of Baylor University to Waco. We firmly believe the administration’s decision is misguided,” the letter concluded.
