Urban Meyer, the legendary football coach associated with Ohio State, has endorsed Madison Sheahan for the Republican primary in Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.
In a video announcement, Meyer stated, “Hi, I’m Coach Urban Meyer. I’ve spent my life on the sidelines building winning teams, and I know what a true champion looks like. That’s Madison Sheahan.” His endorsement captures her commendable qualities as a competitor.
He highlighted her background as a dedicated Buckeye athlete and her involvement in a leadership initiative he pioneered. “She was part of our varsity leadership program and helped instill grit and accountability in future champions,” Meyer affirmed.
“Northwest Ohio, it’s time for a fighter in Washington. Madison fights for you daily, and she deserves your support. She is truly a battle-tested Buckeye. Vote for Madison Sheahan for Congress. Go Bucks!”
Meyer, who led the Ohio State program from 2012 to 2018 and clinched a national championship in 2014, continues to be connected to the university and its athletes. Sheahan played a significant role in the leadership program during his coaching years.
The upcoming election focuses on Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, which includes the city of Toledo and nearby regions. Recent redistricting has made the district more competitive.
Incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur, who has held the seat since 1983, is running for re-election, facing five candidates in the Republican race.
Sheahan, hailing from Curtice, Ohio, is an OSU graduate, where she captained the women’s rowing team and earned Big Ten accolades. She previously held the role of deputy director at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) before resigning to chase a congressional seat.
According to the Cook Political Report, Ohio’s 9th Congressional District is rated R+3, presenting a significant opportunity for the GOP in the upcoming election.
