Ex-Fiancée of Florida Mayor Found Dead in Tragic Incident

On Thursday, Florida witnessed a tragic event when Daniel Curran, the former fiancé of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, was discovered dead in an apparent suicide. This heart-wrenching incident occurred on Curran’s 35th birthday, merely a day after a court appearance where tensions were evident.

Curran, 35, was found outside an apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale around 9 a.m., according to local authorities. The incident is especially poignant given the turbulent history between him and the Democrat mayor.

Mayor Trantalis, aged 72, expressed his deep grief over the loss, stating, “He was a loving individual, and my sympathies go out to his family.” He added that he hoped Curran could find peace now.

The relationship between Curran and Trantalis began in March 2025, leading to an engagement by July of the same year. However, escalating tensions culminated in domestic violence allegations, prompting Trantalis to seek a protective injunction in September.

Despite the injunction, Curran allegedly violated it in November by appearing at the mayor’s residence. This breach led to a violent altercation where Curran reportedly shoved Trantalis and dragged him across the street, resulting in injuries.

Curran faced legal ramifications, being charged with battery against a person 65 or older, contempt of court, and violating the injunction. In court documents, Trantalis detailed Curran’s troubling behavior, which included aggressive outbursts and attempts to invade his home.

In an effort to aid Curran, Trantalis had hoped for rehabilitation through counseling, believing that their relationship could recover. However, after the assault incident, his outlook changed.

A judge granted a no-contact order, underscoring the seriousness of the situation. Following his arrest, Curran posted bond and expressed unwavering love for Trantalis, despite the legal strife.

Just a day before his tragic death, the couple appeared in civil court, where Trantalis stated that Curran no longer posed a threat, leading to a modification of the no-contact order, allowing limited interaction.
