President Donald Trump has reportedly made a decision regarding the future of National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard, amid speculation about potential changes in his cabinet.
Reports indicate that President Trump has privately consulted with his cabinet members about possibly replacing Gabbard. He expressed frustration over her association with a former deputy who challenged his rationale for war with Iran, as revealed by two insiders.
The former National Counterterrorism Director, Joe Kent, recently resigned over his objections to the Iran war and perceived excessive Israeli influence on the president’s decisions.
According to the report, there is currently no clear candidate to succeed Gabbard. Advisers have warned that creating a prominent vacancy without a prepared successor could lead to unnecessary political distractions. This development raises concerns for Gabbard, as Trump typically consults his advisors when contemplating significant personnel changes.
Yet, when asked about his confidence in Gabbard, Trump affirmed his support, noting that while she has a different perspective than he does, it doesn’t disqualify her from serving. He highlighted her ongoing contributions to the administration.
White House spokesman Steven Cheung defended Gabbard’s work, echoing Trump’s sentiment. Cheung emphasized that Trump has assembled a highly skilled cabinet that has achieved historic victories for the American people.
Interestingly, prior to Attorney General Pam Bondi’s dismissal, a report suggested that Trump considered replacing Gabbard with Bondi in the DNI role.
On Monday, CBS News’ Jennifer Jacobs confirmed that Trump did, in fact, contemplate swapping Bondi for Gabbard. However, he ultimately reaffirmed his confidence in Gabbard as the right person for the role. Reports indicate that Trump wants Gabbard to remain in her position for the time being.
Advisors close to Trump considered the idea of moving US Attorney General Pam Bondi to another senior role in the admin, including director of national intelligence.
But Trump has said he wants Tulsi Gabbard to stay in that position, sources told me. @CBSNews— Jennifer Jacobs (@JenniferJJacobs) April 2, 2026
This report follows the recent news of Bondi’s removal from her position as Attorney General, with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche stepping in as acting AG until a permanent replacement is found.
