Don Lemon, the former CNN host, has expressed thoughts about running for president, asserting that he could outshine Donald Trump in leadership.
On the podcast “Pod Save America,” Lemon stated, “Do I ever think about it? Yes. Could it happen? Yeah, it could happen if the opportunity presented itself.” He asserted that while people might dismiss his ambitions as absurd, he is convinced he could run the nation better than Trump.
Despite his aspirations, he cautioned against the potential personal sacrifices of a campaign, acknowledging it could significantly impact his life. He mentioned the need to possibly transition from independent to Democrat, criticizing the privileges that White male candidates enjoy compared to women or minority candidates.
Reflecting on Unlikely Candidates
Lemon does not entirely dismiss the idea of a political move. He rhetorically questioned why he shouldn’t entertain the notion of holding such an office, referencing former President Barack Obama as an example of an unconventional candidate.
He commented, “Did anybody think Barack Obama, with a mixed background, would become president? I think I could run this country a lot better than Donald Trump.”
In a conversation with Fox News Digital, he indicated that any decision would hinge on personal guidance and public backing.
Lemon remarked, “As a person of faith, I’d first consult with my creator about that. If she gives me a sign, and so do the people, then it’s game on.” He expressed a strong desire to address the challenges left by Trump’s administration.
Criticisms and Controversies
He also claimed he could enhance the efficiency of struggling newsrooms, stating, “I could come in and fix the bulk of their problems in no time flat.”
Additionally, he has faced scrutiny for a January incident at St. Paul’s Cities Church, where he was involved in a conflict regarding immigration policies. Lemon is currently facing legal challenges related to this situation, having pleaded not guilty to accusations stemming from the event.
