Ohio Secretary of State Activated with National Guard Forces

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has been activated with his Ohio Army National Guard unit, as reported by NBC4. This activation has triggered necessary contingency plans for his office.

The specifics of his deployment are not being disclosed for security reasons. In the event that LaRose cannot fulfill his duties, an assistant secretary of state is prepared to step in.

Ohio currently hosts a robust military presence, with over 35,000 National Guard and Reserve members and around 11,000 active-duty personnel, as previously noted.

LaRose’s activation coincides with increasing military tensions abroad. This follows a tragic incident in Iraq that resulted in the deaths of three Ohio airmen, alongside news that the U.S. plans to deploy around 1,500 troops from the 82nd Airborne Division to Iran.

LaRose has a distinguished military background; he enlisted in the Army right after high school at 18. He later served with the 101st Airborne Division and U.S. Army Special Forces as a Green Beret, where he earned a Bronze Star and various commendations.

After his active service, LaRose transitioned to civilian life, attending The Ohio State University and embarking on a political career. He served two terms in the Ohio Senate before being elected as secretary of state.

In March 2021, more than a decade after his active duty, he rejoined the military through the Army Reserve. Presently, he is also campaigning for the position of Ohio auditor for the 2026 election.
