Nampa’s Mayor Rick Hogaboam, who recently took office, sadly died on Wednesday evening after collapsing while delivering a speech at a town hall event with fellow mayors. This shocking news comes from the Treasure Valley Partnership.
The 47-year-old experienced a medical emergency mid-speech, prompting Eagle Mayor Brad Pike, a former firefighter, to perform CPR while others called for medical help. Despite quick responses from paramedics, police, and firefighters, Hogaboam could not be revived. The precise cause of his medical issue is currently being investigated.
Reports indicate that Caldwell Mayor Eric Philips also faced health concerns and needed medical attention at the scene. “I’m heartbroken and devastated,” Philips shared. He described feeling sudden chest pains and dizziness before the medics attended to him.
Hogaboam, sworn in as mayor on January 5 after securing 62.9% of the vote in the previous November election, had a long history of public service. He served as the chief of staff for former Mayor Debbie Kling and held various positions including Canyon County clerk and Nampa councilman.
The city of Nampa has called for residents to pray for Hogaboam’s family during this difficult time. In a heartfelt statement, city officials offered condolences, saying, “As we begin to mourn this unbelievable loss, please provide grace while we navigate the loss of not only our Mayor but also our friend.”
Survived by his wife, Mimi, and their five children, Hogaboam was considered the family’s sole provider. The Treasure Valley Partnership expressed their sorrow, stating, “On behalf of every mayor and county commissioner in our Partnership, and of our citizens, we are heartbroken to have lost one of our esteemed colleagues.”
Former Mayor Debbie Kling also commemorated Hogaboam, noting he was a “smart, talented leader, who will be greatly missed,” and she extended her prayers to his “amazing wife and young family.”
