The Alabama Crimson Tide’s journey through March Madness has taken an unwelcome turn.
Guard Aden Holloway was apprehended in Tuscaloosa on Monday for marijuana possession as the NCAA tournament approaches, as confirmed by Tuscaloosa Police Department spokesperson Stephanie Taylor.
According to Taylor, agents from the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force discovered over a pound of marijuana, alongside cash and related paraphernalia, during a search of Holloway’s home.
The 21-year-old faces charges for first-degree marijuana possession and for failing to affix a tax stamp. Police records indicate he was booked at 9:48 a.m. and subsequently released at 10:45 a.m. after posting a $5,000 bond.
The timing of this incident couldn’t be worse for Alabama, who is gearing up for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Crimson Tide are set to face off against an opposing team on Friday in Tampa, Florida.
Per a Tuscaloosa Police spokesperson on Aden Holloway: “Agents with the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force conducted a search of a residence in the 400 block of 30th Avenue East this morning. The agents recovered more than a pound of marijuana, paraphernalia and cash…..1/2

As of now, the university has yet to disclose any plans regarding potential team discipline for Holloway as they move forward with their tournament preparations.
Holloway has played a significant role in the Tide’s 2025-26 season, contributing an average of 16.8 points per game and ranking as the second-leading scorer. With the tournament bracket finalized and the national spotlight on them, Alabama now confronts a troubling distraction at a critical juncture.
