After Crenshaw Upset, Toth Backs Ken Paxton

Texas Rep. Steve Toth immediately endorsed Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the Republican Senate runoff against Sen. John Cornyn after defeating Rep. Dan Crenshaw by more than 15 points in the primary.

Toth’s defense and praise

“During my time in the Texas Legislature, I have come to know Ken Paxton on both a professional and personal level,” Toth told Breitbart News, calling Paxton a staunch defender of conservative values and constitutional rights.

“Ken often served as the last line of defense for Texans during the Biden Administration years, securing major wins for border security, blocking COVID-19 vaccine mandates, and protecting our children. Ken Paxton is battle-tested,” he said.

Toth also defended Paxton’s character amid attacks from Cornyn and his allies, emphasizing that Paxton has consistently put Texas first.

Runoff dynamics

Paxton is viewed as the grassroots favorite after finishing roughly one point behind Cornyn in the primary despite spending about $4 million compared with more than $70 million poured into Cornyn’s campaign and allied efforts.

Momentum for Paxton surged after Tuesday’s results, and President Donald Trump—who stayed neutral during the primary—said he plans to endorse one candidate and ask the other to step aside, energizing Paxton backers.

The Republican primary runoff between Paxton and Cornyn is scheduled for May 26.
