Pahlavi Accepts Interim Role to Guide Iran Toward Elections

Reza Pahlavi says he has accepted a mandate from Iranians to lead a temporary transition if the Islamic Republic collapses.

Proposed approach

He frames the role around stability, continuity of government and a clear path to elections.

President Donald Trump has not extended formal backing and has sounded skeptical about installing a handpicked replacement.

Pahlavi is pitching himself as a steady option if the regime falls.

He said the Iranian people asked him to lead the transition and that he accepted that responsibility.

Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last shah, has lived abroad since the 1979 revolution and has cultivated support among segments of the diaspora.

He says his priority is to restore normal life and rebuild Iran’s standing in the world.

He told supporters that a central part of his mandate is to return the nation’s foreign relations to normalcy.

Temporary stewardship, not permanence

He stresses the role would be temporary and focused on holding the country together long enough for Iranians to choose their next government at the ballot box.

He committed to an orderly transition, stabilization of the country and letting Iranians determine their future through elections.

He warned against repeating chaotic post-regime mistakes that hollow out the state and invite unrest.

He specifically promised to avoid de-Baathification-style purges and to keep as many bureaucrats and public servants in place as possible.

That reference pointedly recalled Iraq, where sweeping removals of government and security personnel helped fuel instability.

His message responds to a widespread fear that the end of the regime could otherwise lead to factional fighting or extremist exploitation.

He presents continuity, stabilization and timely elections as the antidote to revenge purges and chaos.

The politics remain complex since President Trump has not embraced Pahlavi and has warned against open-ended nation-building that lacks clear American benefit.
