President Donald Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence has officially filed his paperwork to enter the 2024 presidential race.
Many have speculated that Pence would run, but now the paperwork makes his intentions clear.
Pence is set to make an official announcement on his 64th birthday this Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.
Trump is leading the pack of those running for the GOP presidential nomination.
Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is trailing the former president by double digits in the polls, while Pence is polling in the single digits.
Pence appears to be running on what the Trump administration accomplished while he was VP.
Pence is well known for his opposition to abortion and has campaigned against “transgender-affirming” policies in schools.
Pence has also pushed for more taxpayer-burdensome U.S. support in Ukraine to stand up against Russia.
After January 6th, 2021, Pence distanced himself from the former president.
He has called Trump’s actions dangerous.
He told AP, “I think we’ll have better choices.
“The American people want us to return to the policies of the Trump-Pence administration, but I think they want to see leadership that reflects more of the character of the American people.”
Pence joins former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC), and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley in the race for the GOP nomination.
