Police Tow Car Away From Nancy Guthrie’s Home After FBI Discovers New Evidence

As the search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, enters its seventh day, investigators were seen towing a car away from her her Tuscon home on Friday night.

Earlier in the day Friday, police rushed to Guthrie’s Catalonia Hills residence rushed to the property after reportedly receiving a “new message” from the suspected kidnappers. A ransom note demanding cryptocurrency payments was previously sent to multiple media outlets on February 2, though the individuals responsible for the abduction have yet to provide proof of life.

Police previously arrested a California man in connection with an alleged ransom note, though that note was deemed fraudulent after the individual responsible told investigators he had been following the case on the news.

Throughout the day Friday, dozens of state and federal law enforcement vehicles, including forensic teams, were seen coming and going to Guthrie’s home. Forensic FBI teams were seen scouring the roof of the property and appeared to find a camera mounted on the property’s roof, which had been missed in previous searches, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

Around 8 p.m. local time, media crews witnessed a tow truck removing a blue or dark-colored SUV from Guthrie’s garage. Footage captured by NewsNation correspondent Brian Entin showed the vehicle being towed away from the property.

It was then escorted by Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) deputies to a nearby lot for processing. It is not currently known whether the towed vehicle belonged to Guthrie, or whether it was another vehicle parked in the garage.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson residence on the evening of January 31, 2026. According to a new timeline released by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) and the FBI, she spoke with family members around 8 p.m. that night.

Her doorbell camera disconnected shortly after, and a pacemaker alert around 2 a.m. on February 1 suggested distress. Investigators quickly determined that her home showed signs of forced entry and indicated that she was likely taken against her will.

Police also recovered blood splatters on the property’s front porch that were confirmed to be Guthrie’s.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said Friday night that investigators and the FBI are holding hope that Nancy is being held alive, adding that interviews with staff at her home proved “helpful” to the investigation. “What I believe is that Nancy was removed from her home against her will, and that we need to find her. That’s what I believe. She’s still alive,” Nanos said.

“I believe that I have no choice until something shows me, a piece of physical evidence shows me that that’s different,” he added.

The sheriff told reporters that investigators conducted interviews with Nancy’s landscape crew, pool maintenance workers, a housekeeper, and an Uber driver who drove her to her daughter Annie’s home hours before she disappeared.

While Nanos expressed optimism on finding Guthrie alive, he has previously cautioned that her recovery is time-sensitive, as the 84-year-old takes medication for a heart condition and has limited mobility.

As of Saturday morning, investigators have not yet identified a suspect or any persons of interest in connection with the suspected kidnapping. While speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One Friday night, President Trump indicated that the investigation had progressed significantly over the last several hours.
