Fulton County Officials Panic, File Desperate Move To Take Back Ballots

Fulton County, Georgia, fired back Wednesday after the feds swooped in on its election offices, demanding the return of ballots and other 2020 voting materials seized by the FBI last week.

County officials filed an under-seal motion in federal court seeking the immediate return of the materials, according to spokeswoman Jessica Corbitt. The filing also demands the unsealing of the affidavit used to justify what local leaders have blasted as an extraordinary and unexplained raid on the county’s election headquarters.

Officials were expected to lay out their case publicly at a news conference later Wednesday.

The legal move caps a turbulent week in Georgia’s largest county, which includes much of Atlanta, after FBI agents stormed election offices and carted off pallets of ballots and other records tied to the 2020 presidential election.

Adding to the mystery was the presence of Tulsi Gabbard, the director of national intelligence, whose role in elections is typically limited to monitoring foreign interference. According to The New York Times, Gabbard met with agents the day after the search and placed a cellphone call to Trump.

After initially missing the call, Trump called back and spoke to the agents on speakerphone, asking questions and thanking them, according to three people familiar with the meeting.

Trump has continued to argue that the 2020 election was rigged, while members of his administration have pushed to dig deeper into what they say are unanswered questions surrounding that vote.
