New Report Reveals Where Renee Good Was Shot During ICE Operation

A newly released fire department report is shedding light on the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old who was killed during a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation in south Minneapolis earlier this month.

According to incident records obtained from Minneapolis emergency responders, Good suffered four gunshot wounds after an encounter with an ICE agent on Portland Avenue on January 7. The documents provide the clearest official account to date of where Good was struck and the chaotic minutes that followed the shooting, which has since sparked protests, political fallout, and competing investigations.

The Minneapolis Fire Department report states that paramedics arrived to find Good unresponsive inside the driver’s seat of her SUV at approximately 9:42 a.m. She had sustained two apparent gunshot wounds to the right side of her chest, one to her left forearm, and one to the left side of her head. Blood was visible on her face and torso, and responders noted that she was not breathing and had an “irregular” and barely perceptible pulse.

According to the Minnesota Star Tribune, her pupils were dilated, and blood was reportedly coming from her left ear. Emergency personnel attempted life-saving measures at the scene before moving Good from her vehicle to a nearby snowbank and then onto the sidewalk in an effort to separate her from what was described as an escalating and volatile scene involving federal agents and bystanders.

The documents do not specify how many bullets were fired, but investigators have previously said the ICE agent involved discharged his weapon three times. One round reportedly traveled through the front windshield on the driver’s side, while two others were fired through the open driver’s window, including the fatal shot to Good’s head. Officials have noted that a single bullet can create multiple gunshot wounds, which may account for the four injuries listed in the report.

911 dispatch logs included in the released records also capture the intensity of the moment. Calls began flooding in around 9:38 a.m. from neighbors and federal personnel, with dispatchers initially alerted to an active shooting. In one call transcript, a Homeland Security official referenced “agitators on the scene” and officers trapped in vehicles, while residents could be heard shouting that a woman had been shot inside her car at close range.

Good was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center shortly before 10 a.m. CPR was discontinued roughly 30 minutes later, and she was pronounced dead.

The shooting occurred during what the Department of Homeland Security has described as a large-scale enforcement effort known as “Operation Metro Surge,” which has brought thousands of federal agents into the Twin Cities area. Federal officials have maintained that the ICE agent, identified as Jonathan Ross, fired in self-defense after being struck or nearly struck by Good’s vehicle.

The Minneapolis Police Department incident report related to the shooting remains heavily redacted. It confirms that MPD assisted with securing the scene following what was classified as a “federal officer involved shooting” and lists multiple witnesses, including Good’s wife, Becca Good.

The FBI has assumed sole authority over the investigation.
